Students enjoyed our Unit on Nonfiction Text as they were fascinated by many interesting topics. In all they read, they learned about and were able to identify the characteristic "features" that are distinct to nonfiction pieces [as compared to those of fiction pieces]. They became increasingly skilled at being able to name the "parts" that are typical of this genre. ANIMALS were a favorite selection, and we studied ants together as a class; a couple of our students even learned firsthand what happens when ants bite!
